Eating a combination of food supplements and real food throughout the day has been prevalent among people for quite some time. Some of the supplements are advised either by the doctor or the gym instructor while others are consumed willingly because the advertisement for the same seemed inspiring. But have you ever imagined a dinner containing only supplementary tablets of multiple colors and the diners politely swallowing each with a glass of water? The idea seems very futuristic and impossible at the moment but the advancement of science may actually make it possible some day. Experiments to live on supplementary tablets are on but a long-term success is yet to be reported.
New drug shows the way:
The business of supplementary medicine is booming every day and a new supplement is being invented for everything. They are taking the form of pills, tablets, powders, shakes and what not. A recent research by the Pittsburg University has shown that a particular antioxidant and multivitamin mix is successfully enhancing the chances of survival in rats even when they have barely 30% opportunity of seeing the next meal. The mix has been developed by NASA. However, according to a senior professor of Glasgow University supplements are required only when you are suffering from a deficiency. Otherwise sticking to regular food is more than sufficient.
Pills lack the taste and smell of food:
Eating, at times, seems very boring especially when a large meal has to be prepared and all are in the search for a balanced diet. The perfect balance of proteins, minerals, and vitamins is often impossible because the farming method of the vegetables and fruits was incorrect and deficient. But only swallowing pills and shakes hardly suffices the craving for food because the process of eating them does not register to the brain during consumption. The pills lack smell and taste or even the need to be placed on the table with the dinner plates. Even though the body gets the fodder through supplements along with the essential nutrients, the mind remains unsatisfied making it impossible to focus on work.
Food for athletes:
With food supplements, the body does not get the fiber which is essential for the digestive system. Athletes often forgo particular groups of food because of training purpose which makes it important for them to switch to supplementary nutrients. But this change in the diet has to be approved and monitored carefully because certain food products or their concentration can actually lead to disqualification from a particular sports event.
No safety regulations for pills:
Supplements fill in the body with nutrients which have not been supplied by the regular meals. Most people fall short of Vitamin D and calcium in their daily food. Therefore, consuming these two nutrients in the form of pills or powder is perfectly possible. But not every supplement is produced in a regulated manner. Many of these are contaminated with banned substances and should be consumed at the user’s risk. They can sometimes cause serious health hazards because the manufacturing and safety measures undertaken by the manufacturers are not strictly regulated.
